Job Overview

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is inviting qualified candidates to apply for the position of Blood Bank Technician in Polokwane, Limpopo.

The successful candidate will perform routine manual and automated laboratory testing in blood banks. Duties include compatibility testing, postnatal testing and preliminary investigations into transfusion reactions.

This position is suitable for an HPCSA-registered Medical Technician with laboratory skills, attention to detail and a commitment to quality standards and patient safety.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• HPCSA-registered Medical Technician.
• Good physical health, with reasonable endurance and mobility.
• Good eyesight and the ability to distinguish colours.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Good planning, organisational and administrative skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate professionally.
• Willingness to work overtime, night shifts and weekends according to the roster.
• Willingness to travel locally and nationally when required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Performing routine manual and automated blood bank tests.
• Conducting compatibility testing and postnatal investigations.
• Assisting with preliminary transfusion reaction investigations.
• Maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensuring compliance with laboratory quality standards and procedures.
• Meeting operational objectives and completing tasks within specified timeframes.
• Supporting quality assurance and risk management objectives.
• Carrying out general blood bank functions.
• Maintaining professional customer relations.
• Following established laboratory procedures to support safe and reliable blood transfusion services.
