About the Role
Ampath Laboratories is offering an opportunity for Learner Scientists to join its NRL Genetics department in Centurion on a two-year contract.
This role combines scientific knowledge with practical laboratory experience, providing an opportunity to develop technical expertise while contributing to quality diagnostic services that support patient care.
Working alongside experienced professionals, successful candidates will gain exposure to laboratory operations, scientific methodologies and quality standards through structured learning, mentorship and hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities
As a Learner Scientist, you will:
- Support day-to-day laboratory operations.
- Participate in laboratory activities and scientific processes.
- Apply scientific knowledge and laboratory techniques in a practical environment.
- Follow established procedures and quality standards.
- Work responsibly with laboratory equipment and specimens.
- Maintain accuracy and attention to detail in laboratory activities.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants should have completed a relevant BSc Honours degree in one of the following disciplines:
- Genetics
- Human Genetics
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology
- Cell Biology
- Haematology
- Forensic Genetics
The qualification should provide a strong foundation in laboratory science and research principles.
Previous laboratory experience may be advantageous, but the position is designed for individuals who are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical laboratory setting.
