Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate will perform day-to-day operational processes and procedures, ensuring that services and infrastructure meet operational targets. The Computer Operator will also assist the senior team member with production runs and provide support when system failures or errors occur.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric — Essential
• IT Degree or Diploma — Advantageous
• Minimum 3 years’ experience working with batch scheduling

Key Responsibilities

The Computer Operator will be responsible for:

• Monitoring operational performance and ensuring service quality is maintained.
• Following accurate escalation processes and communicating relevant incidents.
• Identifying business risks and escalating them appropriately.
• Working with infrastructure teams to deliver required service levels.
• Maintaining and producing operational documentation.
• Operating systems according to established procedures.
• Performing regular system and operational checks.
• Monitoring daily operations, systems and internal infrastructure services.
• Identifying system or service faults and escalating them.
• Assisting the Team Leader with keeping documentation current and relevant.
• Monitoring system activity, batch jobs and devices.
• Operating, monitoring and maintaining computer systems.

Operations Support

The role includes:

• Identifying system failures and errors.
• Following the agreed procedures for each system or application.
• Providing first- and second-line support when system failures occur.
• Ensuring system checks are completed within specified timeframes.
• Monitoring operational dashboards.
• Ensuring scheduled tasks run on time and according to relevant procedures.
• Accurately following procedures and requests.
