Key Responsibilities

The Receptionist will be responsible for:

  • Welcoming patients, visitors, doctors and other stakeholders.
  • Directing patients and visitors to the appropriate departments or wards.
  • Providing information about hospital services, procedures and locations.
  • Handling patient admissions and ensuring information is captured accurately.
  • Verifying patient personal details, medical aid and insurance information.
  • Capturing and updating patient records on the SAP system.
  • Processing online and direct admissions.
  • Obtaining required consent forms and admission documentation.
  • Assisting patients with Netcare digital platforms and online admissions.
  • Obtaining authorisations required for admissions.
  • Collecting medical aid co-payments and other required payments.
  • Processing cash and credit-card payments and issuing accurate receipts.
  • Balancing and reconciling payments where required.
  • Handling telephone calls and transferring calls to the correct departments.
  • Responding to general patient and visitor enquiries.
  • Recording and delivering telephone messages accurately.
  • Maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performing general administrative duties.
  • Keeping the reception and waiting areas organised and welcoming.
  • Keeping patients informed about admission status and waiting times.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and protecting sensitive information.
  • Following Netcare policies, procedures, quality standards and internal controls.
  • Participating in team meetings and professional development activities.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Competency in data entry.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer-service skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities.

Advantageous Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Previous experience in a hospital environment.
  • Experience with SAP ISH.
  • Previous customer-service experience.
  • Knowledge of medical aid scales of benefits.
