Job Overview

Anglo American is inviting applications for the position of Operations Controller – Shovel at its Kumba Iron Ore operations in Kathu.

The successful candidate will be responsible for safely operating Ultra-class and smaller shovels, coordinating loading activities, improving equipment utilisation and supporting mining production targets.

The role requires practical mining experience, relevant equipment licences and a strong understanding of mining safety procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

• Grade 12 or N3 qualification.
• Valid South African driver’s licence.
• Red Permit.
• Valid Dover Certificate.
• Relevant HME licences (shovel-related).
• Three years of relevant operational experience in mining.

Advantageous qualifications:

• Competency A.
• Legal Liability A2.

Technical Knowledge:

• Knowledge of shovel operating systems.
• Understanding of hydraulic systems and loading controls.
• Knowledge of pit layouts and mining operations.
• Understanding of collision prevention and fire suppression systems.
• Knowledge of payload monitoring and cycle-time performance.
• Experience with Ultra-class shovel operations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Operate Ultra-class and smaller shovels safely and efficiently.

• Achieve production and payload targets.
• Monitor equipment performance and report defects.
• Identify workplace hazards and report safety concerns.
• Participate in incident investigations.
• Maintain good housekeeping around assigned equipment.
• Complete proper shift handovers.
