Job Overview

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is inviting applications for an Enrolled Nurse position in its Donor Collections Department in Middelburg.

The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting sufficient, safe and quality blood from donors while following relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

The role involves donor registration, assessing donor suitability, performing phlebotomy procedures and assisting with the smooth running of blood donation clinics.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Registered Enrolled Nurse.
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
• Valid Code 8 driver’s licence.
• Current CPR certificate. SANBS will provide training if the successful candidate does not have a valid certificate.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with clinic preparation and closure to achieve blood collection targets.
• Register blood donors professionally and accurately.
• Conduct basic physical checks to assess donor suitability.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures according to approved SOPs.
• Carry out general administrative duties.
• Ensure clinics operate professionally and according to established procedures.
• Maintain good customer service when interacting with donors.

Additional Job Requirements

• Work under the supervision of a Clinic Supervisor or designated deputy.
• Be willing to drive a company vehicle when required.
• Be available for travel, including overnight stays.
• Be prepared to work overtime, weekends and variable working hours.
• Be physically able to stand for extended periods and lift loads of up to 14kg.
