Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Grade 12/Senior Certificate with more than 5 years’ functional experience in a Patient Administration environment; or
- A three-year Diploma or Degree in Public Management, Public Administration or Office Administration with at least 3 years’ functional experience in Patient Administration.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Care Act, 17 of 2002.
- Knowledge of POPIA, PAIA and relevant Public Service legislation, policies and procedures.
- Practical knowledge of HIS/SAP.
- Knowledge of UPFS tariffs and patient billing procedures.
- Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Strong administrative, planning, organisational and analytical skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work shifts, including 12-hour shifts, weekends, public holidays and overtime.

The successful candidate will:
- Supervise and monitor administrative staff responsible for patient admissions, discharges, transfers and other patient movements.
- Coordinate daily Patient Administration functions and ensure accurate capturing of patient information on HIS/SAP.
- Verify Mental Health Care User documentation and admission requirements.
- Monitor patient classification and billing processes in line with UPFS tariffs.
- Conduct quality checks on patient administration records and HIS/SAP information.
- Coordinate the filing, retrieval, tracking, archiving and secure safekeeping of patient files.
- Compile and submit required daily, weekly and monthly statistics and reports.
- Liaise with the Mental Health Review Board, prosecutors, multidisciplinary teams and other stakeholders.
- Handle routine administrative enquiries and appeals relating to Mental Health Care Users.
- Monitor the administration and safekeeping of patients’ private funds, valuables and personal property.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, policies and departmental procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and institutional information.
- Promote professional, ethical and patient-centred service delivery.
- Perform other reasonable duties delegated by the responsible manager.
