Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• At least 1–2 years of relevant experience in an FMCG manufacturing or processing environment.
• Practical experience operating and monitoring processing equipment.
• Experience in a food or dairy manufacturing environment will be advantageous.
• A relevant technical qualification or certificate in Food Technology, Food Processing, Food and Beverage Manufacturing, Production, Engineering or a related field will be advantageous.
• Training in GMP, food safety, quality assurance or process operations will be advantageous.
• Fluency in Business English.
• Basic computer literacy.
• Willingness and ability to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
• Ability to work in challenging or extreme environmental conditions associated with a manufacturing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operate and Monitor Plant Processes

The Process Operator will:

• Operate processing equipment such as pasteurisers, homogenisers, separators and related plant equipment according to approved SOPs.
• Monitor and control plant processes to maintain optimal production performance.
• Work towards achieving production yield and throughput targets.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce operating costs.
• Record production volumes, yields, plant start-up and downtime, utility consumption and other relevant process information.
• Participate in plant cleaning programmes and procedures.
• Monitor the usage, availability and inventory of process chemicals and production supplies.

Quality Assurance

Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the quality and integrity of raw materials and finished products throughout the processing cycle.
• Working with Laboratory and Quality Assurance teams to implement quality policies and procedures.
• Collecting and testing process samples according to approved quality procedures.
• Maintaining accurate and up-to-date quality records.
• Understanding and interpreting quality results and taking corrective action when necessary.
• Escalating quality deviations or concerns to the relevant responsible person.

Plant Maintenance and Safety

The successful candidate will also:

• Report equipment faults, breakdowns and operational concerns to the Maintenance Department.
• Perform preventative maintenance activities within the scope of the position.
• Assist with diagnosing and troubleshooting equipment and process-related problems.
• Operate equipment safely and follow prescribed safety procedures.
• Comply with health, safety, hygiene, environmental and company requirements.
