The successful candidate will provide technical support, maintenance and systems administration for SABC Post Production and News Room facilities in a 24/7 broadcast environment.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Preventative and corrective maintenance of technical and broadcast equipment.
• Troubleshooting and repairing equipment and systems.
• Supporting production and broadcast operations.
• Configuring servers, computers, networks and broadcast equipment.
• Supporting broadcast hardware, software and networks.
• Conducting system checks and monitoring equipment functionality.
• Performing technical projects, installations and modifications.
• Maintaining technical documentation and developing SOPs.
• Providing technical support to internal and external users.
• Supporting Disaster Recovery planning.
• Maintaining equipment, software and hardware inventories.
• Assisting with special events and election infrastructure.
• Providing technical training and mentoring.
• Responding to faults and supporting 24/7 broadcast availability.

Minimum Requirements

• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Computer literacy (A+).
• Network knowledge (N+).
• Willingness to work irregular hours and shifts.
• Willingness to work in a 24/7 Post Production and News facility environment.

Qualification

A 3- or 4-year National Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering S4/T3, Light Current/Computer Systems, or a related qualification at NQF Level 6/7.

Experience

• At least 3 years’ experience in technical maintenance and fault finding of broadcasting equipment in a Post Production environment.
• Experience with Post Production or News Facilities.
• Experience in website/system administration.
• Knowledge of digital television standards and file formats.
• Experience with electronic equipment, repairs and technical installations.
• Knowledge of broadcast equipment such as video tape machines, Autocue systems and LTO tape systems.

Knowledge

Knowledge of TV broadcast environments, Broadcast Media Servers, MAM systems, Non-Linear Craft Editing, LTO Archive systems, Graphics Software, IT security, broadcast equipment, circuit diagrams and broadcast system diagrams will be required.
