Job Overview
The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting suitably qualified and experienced candidates to apply for the position of Administration Clerk Level 5: Maintenance Artisan (Carpenter) at Weskoppies Hospital.
The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out general carpentry maintenance, repairs and installation work across the hospital environment. The role involves maintaining and repairing doors, cupboards, ceilings, shelves, counters and other carpentry-related structures while ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and according to required standards.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
- Minimum N3 theory in Carpentry or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- A recognised Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry and Woodwork.
- At least 2 years’ experience in general carpentry maintenance and repairs in a hospital or maintenance environment.
- A valid South African Code B driver’s licence will be an added advantage.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good planning, organising and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to perform standby, overtime, weekend and public holiday duties when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
The appointed candidate will be responsible for:
- Performing general carpentry and woodwork maintenance, repairs and installations.
- Attending to defects involving cupboards, doors, ceilings, shelves, counters and related installations.
- Manufacturing, installing, repairing and maintaining carpentry structures and fittings.
- Inspecting carpentry installations to identify defects, damage and maintenance requirements.
- Assessing maintenance requests and determining the materials, tools and equipment required.
- Providing feedback to the Supervisor regarding materials, equipment and additional work required.
- Ensuring completed work meets required quality, safety and service standards.
- Recording and closing completed maintenance requests.
- Maintaining tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Reporting unsafe conditions, defects and material shortages.
- Planning daily work activities to meet maintenance objectives.
- Complying with occupational health and safety requirements and departmental procedures.
- Performing standby, overtime, weekend and public holiday duties when required.
- Performing other reasonable duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is suitable for candidates who have Grade 12, N3 Carpentry theory, a recognised Carpentry and Woodwork Trade Test Certificate and at least two years of relevant maintenance experience.
