Semi Skilled Aircraft Assistant Job at FlySafair

FlySafair is recruiting for a Semi Skilled Aircraft Assistant to join its Heavy Maintenance team at the company’s Head Office in Bonearo Park, Johannesburg.

The successful candidate will report to the Heavy Maintenance Manager and assist Mechanical Technicians with scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance activities. This role is suited to candidates with practical aviation maintenance experience, good mechanical aptitude and a strong commitment to safety.

The Aircraft Assistant will provide hands-on support with aircraft interiors, components, tooling, equipment and general maintenance activities while working under the direction and supervision of qualified technicians.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Assisting Mechanical Technicians with scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance.
• Assisting with stripping and reassembly of aircraft interiors and cargo compartments.
• Removing and reinstalling cargo liners, floor panels, insulation blankets and interior panels under supervision.
• Assisting with aircraft component removal and installation.
• Opening and closing aircraft access panels.
• Preparing aircraft and work areas before maintenance activities.
• Cleaning aircraft structures, components and work areas.
• Moving aircraft components, tooling and equipment.
• Retrieving and returning tooling, materials and consumables.
• Supporting aircraft inspections by providing access and assistance to technicians.
• Maintaining good housekeeping standards in the hangar and work areas.
• Cleaning and returning tooling and equipment after use.
• Following company procedures, OEM maintenance data and SACAA regulations.
• Correctly using required PPE and following company safety procedures.
• Reporting unsafe conditions, damaged equipment and hazards immediately.
• Supporting other Heavy Maintenance sections when required.
• Performing other reasonable duties as instructed by management.

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
• At least 1 year of experience in an aviation maintenance environment with hands-on exposure to aircraft maintenance.
• Experience assisting with aircraft maintenance activities will be advantageous.
• Experience with aircraft interior removal and installation will be advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of aircraft maintenance practices.
• Basic understanding of aircraft safety requirements.
• Knowledge of aircraft hand tools and workshop equipment.
• Understanding of aircraft maintenance environments.
• Basic understanding of aircraft interior and cargo compartment components.
• Basic knowledge of housekeeping and FOD control.
• Good mechanical aptitude.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Good organisational skills.
• Basic problem-solving ability.
• Ability to perform physically demanding work and work under pressure.
